Kopitiam

Went to Kopitiam today over there in Lafayette, California. Yeah… we DRIVE to get some food. It took us about an hour to get there.

The Highlight: Hainan Chicken Rice:

Mee Goreng

Mee Siam

Roti John

Roti Prata

Iced Coffee

At the end of it all, I would say its probably not that well worth of the drive. Food was just alright, not too much to rave about.

Check it out for yourself, here is their website.

Bánh Khọt

Went to San Jose on Sunday, it was a great eating event day. :-) Awesomeness… had this at the Grand Century Mall Food Court:

Its basically a southern Vietnam specialty consisting of small, fried rice flour pancakes and shrimp on top. Eaten with nước mắm (fish sauce) and lettuce.

Bomb.

Bake Sale Betty

I have to tell everyone about this place. Bomb ass Fried Chicken Sandwich.

You can find the location via their website.

Ajisen Ramen

After Ellie’s 4th Birthday Party, the wu’s and the ling’s chilled for a bit and headed over to Ajisen Ramen for dinner.

It was quite tasty… and regular size was quite huge…

Appetizer:

Tiff & I had the same thing:

Wu’s had these…

Good sh*t. Yelp review here.

Chicago

So we took a trip to Chicago over this past weekend. It was for Steve Lee and Jane Lai’s wedding. It was like a damn Purdue reunion over there. :-P Wifey’s first time out there, though, she seemed to have enjoyed it.

We arrived on Saturday, after a long ass wait at the Hertz rental car, we finally got a car which came in quite handy I must say. Hyundai Sonata ain’t too shabby. :-) It was rain galore from the minute we arrived – Hurricane Ike left its mark over the skies of Chicago. We got into the city Oak Brook, and I brought Tiff to White Castle, it was her first time – and she liked it. :-)

Sunday we spent the day hanging out with P and his friend R, we actually had Chinese breakfast for brunch. :-) That was cool, regular “fan-twan” with soy sauce egg in it?! That’s a first – pretty good. Evening was the wedding of course…

Clouds started to clear up Sunday night for a beautiful day on Monday…

Ate some lunch…

And we pretty much spent the whole day downtown Chicago…

More pics from the trip over there at Flickr.

Satura Cakes

Just was thinking about this Choco-Misu Cake:

Could use one right now. :-)

Satura Cakes

Los Angeles Bound

Drove down to LA over the weekend… Had a blast. A bit tiring from driving though… but it was all good.

Had a bit fun with Dee-Dee (not without a bit of allergic reaction to him though):

Also learned how to make this fantastic comfort food from Taiwan:

Courtesy of my cousin in law Vincent.

Mangosteen

The mother-in-law found these in Chinatown. Wifey’s favorite fruit ever since she had it in Singapore. And it has finally landed here in the United States (California at least :-) ).

Yummy!

You can find out more info about it here.

Happy Birthday Linda & Happy Mother’s Day

Another cake from Copenhagen Bakery in Burlingame, CA.

Every year, Linda celebrates her birthday with Mother’s Day – she feels a bit gypped, but its all fun in the end… so Happy Mother’s Day, Mom.? And Happy Birthday, Linda!

Sunday

So we went over to a park near my friend’s house and sat out for a couple of hours on Sunday and set up a picnic around 4 ish. It was good fun, shot some hoops. :-) For those of you who don’t know, I don’t have a hoop gene in me, I really suck… but this time I actually got some shots in! :-) Was quite proud of myself. :-)

Anyways, it was fun, tri-tip prep’ed by my friend (da bomb!), and we brought bread and some chips. Some pics…

And happen to UN-Deadstock some Huarache’s thinking that the picnic wasn’t gonna happen, cuz it was a bit cold, but what a way to break them out, grass + hoop. :-)

Crawfish Beignet

So over the weekend, we decided that we wanted some southern comfort style breakfast, so we went to Brenda’s. And I gotta share it with everyone about it and let you know that their crawfish beignets are to die for!

They have other great foods, and the serving size is quite large, so bring your appetite, maybe for some banana bread French toasts or chocolate chip pancakes (they were the specials that day), or some grits – Tiff said it was yummers!
